How gamut coverage percentages actually work

A spec sheet claim like "99% sRGB" means the panel can reproduce 99 percent of the colors defined in that space. But two numbers get confused constantly:

Coverage is how much of the target space the display can reach. This is the number that matters.

Volume (sometimes written as a percentage above 100) is how large the display gamut is relative to the target. A monitor can show 150% of sRGB volume while still only covering 95% sRGB, because it stretches far in some directions and falls short in others.

When a manufacturer quotes a number above 100, they are almost always quoting volume, not coverage. Coverage can never exceed 100 percent.

Why wide gamut can make normal content look wrong
