Can you actually tell high refresh rates apart?
People upgrade from 60Hz to 144Hz to 240Hz assuming each step is obviously smoother, but most never test that assumption without the marketing number in front of them. This plays two short clips at different simulated frame rates, both capped to your own panel's measured refresh rate, and asks you to guess which one was smoother with no label attached.

How to run the test
- 1Let the page auto-detect your panel's real refresh rate before starting; the button unlocks once that finishes.
- 2Click Start Round and watch Clip 1 and Clip 2 without looking away, ideally in fullscreen with nothing else on screen.

How to read the result
A high score across rounds comparing your panel's top rate against something well below it just confirms basic perception; that is expected.
Struggling specifically on pairs at the high end of your candidate list, like 144 vs 240, means that particular step is likely wasted on your eyes for this kind of content.
Scores tend to worsen quickly at high frame rates because the *relative* difference between two fast rates is small; 60 vs 90 is a much bigger jump proportionally than 165 vs 240.

Can this show me frame rates higher than my monitor supports?
No, and it will not try. Both clips in every round are capped to your panel's own measured refresh rate, detected the same way the Refresh Rate Test measures it. A 60Hz display can only ever compare rates at or below 60fps, because it physically cannot draw anything faster than that.
Why do the clips look like they judder instead of blur?
Lower simulated frame rates hold the moving object's position steady between updates, which is what judder actually is: the same logical position repeated across several real screen refreshes. Real games add motion blur and different input handling per rate too, which this deliberately does not simulate, so it isolates raw update-rate smoothness on its own.
I keep failing to tell 144 from 240, does that mean my monitor is broken?
No. Diminishing perceptual returns at high frame rates are well documented and expected, not a sign of a faulty panel. The proportional jump from 144 to 240 is much smaller than 60 to 144, so struggling there while acing 60 vs 120 is a completely normal and common result.
Does a "Looked the same" guess count as correct?
Only when the two rates in that round are genuinely close, roughly within 15%. On pairs further apart than that, "same" is scored as incorrect, since a real perceptible difference existed even if you missed it.
Is this the same as the classic UFO frame-skipping demos?
It uses a similar frame-holding technique to simulate lower rates, but this is framed as a blind A/B guessing game with scoring rather than a side-by-side reference chart, since the actual question most people have is simply whether they personally can tell the difference.
