How to run the test

  1. 1View the test pattern straight on first and note the color and black level as your baseline.
  2. 2Move roughly 45 degrees to one side and compare how much the brightness and color shift.
  3. 3Repeat vertically, from above and below, since vertical shift is usually worse than horizontal.
  4. 4View a dark pattern from an angle in a dim room to check specifically for IPS glow in the corners.

How to read the result

Dramatic color inversion with a small tilt indicates a TN panel.

Blacks that wash out to gray and contrast that drops off-axis indicates a VA panel.
